The synagogue was formed in a flat in order to maintain and develop the jewish tradition for the orthodox jewish people in the neighbourhood, Újlipótváros in 1948. Most of the members identify themselves with modern orthodoxy. In 2001, members of the synagogue founded Pesti Shul (Sul) Society.
